The World Cup 2010

THE WORLD CUP 2010 HAS COME AND GONE FOR ENGLAND!

Well it all started so well... kind of. There was so much hype for the world cup - people who never watch football bagain to take an interest. There were flags everywhere! Cars, houses, streets, shops and many faces were coloured red and white. This world cup, in South Africa, is being haunted by the sound of vuvuzelas (below), so the match noise is louder than usual!

Oh England, where did it all go wrong! Although to be honest I think we did get quite far, seeing as we did play quite badly for a lot of it! So in the end 2 draws, 1 win and 1 horrible defeat against Germany.

The 4-1 defeat was a controversial one, especially due to the disallowed goal, which should have obviously been allowed, as Im sure every English man or woman who watched the game will tell you! But in the end, what would it have mattered? Is a 4-2 defeat that much better? I think not!

The Sun Has Got His Hat On!!!

"temperatures set to rise to make this the warmest weekend of the year so far"
(BBC, 19.05.10)

Yes, finally! The sun is out with a backdrop of clear blue sky! The only problem is that we are so scared of it going away again, many of us decide not to use any sun-cream and end up getting burnt! ... and yes, that is what I did today. I had lunch with a friend and when the question of where we wanted to sit came up we decided outside was a clever choice. Needless to say I am slightly red now! Fingers crossed it turns into a tan over night! :D

Book Review

The Seven Secrets of Happiness

By Sharon Owens

“Once upon a time Ruby O’Neill lived in her very own ivory tower (a beautiful little cottage) with her very own fairytale prince (her handsome husband Jonathan). She had roses round her door and her friends were never far away – life in her fairytale land was perfect. But grown-up fairy stories don’t last forever and one dark night Ruby’s life is smashed into a million pieces. With her castle in the air destroyed and her heart broken, she swears she will never love again. Yet guardian angels hide in the strangest places and from Ruby’s darkest night, six magical secrets slowly emerge to show her life is for living and that tomorrow is not too late for love. But who is the mysterious stranger who holds the seventh secret, the hardest one to find? And is he the person who holds the ultimate secret, the key to Ruby’s frozen heart?

Review

To read the back of the book you can tell that this will no doubt be a bit of a tear-jerker, but what you can’t see is that the book hides lots of tender moments of happiness too! I enjoyed the book so much that towards the end I was rationing out the chapters and trying to only read one per night. The book is filled with tragic events that happen in everyday life, but the way that the characters deal with the consequences of them is what is most interesting. You admire the way the main character, Ruby O’Neill, pushes herself to move on with her life and the image of the little shop in which she works makes you want one of your own.

I would definitely recommend this read if you like a heart-warming read before bed and a bit of romance in your life.

Uplifting * adorable * realistic yet romantic * tear-jerker

Working 9 to 5

The time of being a lazy student is well and truly over
I am working full time now and have discovered many very small joys in a working day a.k.a. lunch time and home time, haha. It does on the other hand make the day go really quick! and it makes you glad to be home too.

As I see it, you better be happy at work, because you spend half of your life there!

Recycled Jewelry!

This is an example of the type of beautiful recycled jewely I have been looking at on the internet...

If you visit the website you can see for yourself the weird and wonderful creations of the 'hairy growler'. Funny name, I know. But I think what they are doing is very interesting. They create things out of old things. For example, a bracelet out of an old fork.

Race For Life - link

The link I have chosen is the Race For Life link,
as I am planning to run (or walk, hehe) this year.

Raising money for a cancer charity is good enough on it's own, but this is a brilliant way of getting women who don't do marathons or who don't go running to get involved, try something new and get fit.

Review of Avatar

I saw the over-hyped, overly expensive Avatar a few weeks ago. Before going into the theatre, I was a little apprehensive, thinking that the film would just be mediocre and a big deal about nothing. Plus the fact that it's in 3D, so you have to wear huge plastic glasses for two and a half hours and pay an extra few pounds for the pleasure! But to my surprise, as soon as the film began, I was dragged into this beautiful world of Pandora and by the end of the film I didn't want to leave. Although the fact of how much this film cost to create is always lurking in the back of your mind, you do appreciate why it was so expensive. The scenes are incredible to watch, the characters are compelling and you really do begin to care about the Na'vi (the blue people). I would recommend this film to anyone and everyone. It fantastic for children and I'm sure the older generation will love it too. A five star film if ever I saw one!

hmm...

I need to write a review today. but what to review...

single? film? TV Programme?? so many options. We will see.
